During this workshop you will work and be taught in a professional fully equipped woodwork shop :

You will be taught and learn how to make the following joints from scratch which are extremely useful and versatile for a
vast variety of woodwork and furniture making projects . During the day you shall be taught to make the following joints:

  • tee-halving joints - an overlapping joint useful in making subframes and frameworks

  • cross halving joints - a joint made from two intersecting pieces of timber used in furniture and cabinet making

  • dovetailed tee-halving joints - a decorative and strong joint used in furniture and cabinet making

  • mortice & tenon joints - a popular woodwork joint that is extremely strong and used in making chairs, doors, windows and frameworks

You shall be working with seasoned FSC European Redwood and have the opportunity to learn how to correctly use and maintain tenon saws, try squares, marking gauges, smoothing and jack planes, chisels and mallets. This useful and practical workshop takes place in The Yorkshire Hut Company’s professional .workshop, next to York Art & Crafts and is a perfect introduction to woodwork and furniture making. This will provide you with an experience to develop confidence to apply these joints to future projects of your choice.


Kevin Lordan BA (Hons) QTS - is a master craftsman Kevin Lordan of The Yorkshire Hut Company and has made over 85 bespoke shepherd’s huts. Kevin is a fully qualified in his crafts and as a teacher with 30 years experience. Kevin very much enjoys teaching, has always trained apprentices and enjoys passing skills forward in a warm, welcoming and professional manner.

Terms and conditions: A 50% deposit is required to book a place on any course or workshop with the balance due the week before the start date. In the unlikely event we have to can cel a course or workshop you deposit will be returned to you in full. Should you have to cancel a your place on a workshop or course, your deposit will be returned to you or transferred to another course if your cancellation is 7 days or more before the commencement of the courses or workshop. If less than 7 days notice is given the deposit is non refundable unless we can fill your place in which case it shall be returned to you.
