During this exciting and productive six day course you will have the opportunity to make your very own beautiful hardwood coffee table to take home, in a timber of your choice (Oak, Elm, Ash, Maple or Cherry), similar to the one in the above image in a professional fully equipped woodwork shop:

  • gain a variety of professional skills and knowledge

  • learn how to mark out and and cut to a square straight edge

  • learn how to glue and cramp up solid elm boards to form a solid table top

  • plane 90 degree flat edges

  • learn how to use tools appropriately to measure and mark out joints

  • learn how to make a variety of joints and apply them to your coffee table

  • learn how to cut your joints using both hand tools and machinery such as routers, biscuit jointers & mortice machine

  • practice and implement finishing techniques such as scrapping, planing, sanding and the application of finishing oil

    You shall be working with seasoned FSC Elm and have the opportunity to learn how to correctly use tenon saws, try squares, mortice gauge, mallets, chisels, smoothing and jack planes, cabinet scraper and mortice machine. This six week practical course takes place in The Yorkshire Hut Company’s professional .workshop, next to York Art & Crafts and is a wonderful woodwork and furniture making project as it enables you to learn and implement a variety of joints and construct a beautiful design producing a stunning piece of furniture that you can use and enjoy for may years to come.

 

Kevin Lordan BA (Hons) QTS - is a master craftsman Kevin Lordan of The Yorkshire Hut Company and has made over 85 bespoke shepherd’s huts. Kevin is a fully qualified in his crafts and as a teacher with 30 years experience. Kevin very much enjoys teaching, has always trained apprentices and enjoys passing skills forward in a warm, welcoming and professional manner.

Terms and conditions: A 50% deposit is required to book a place on any course or workshop with the balance due the week before the start date. In the unlikely event we have to cancel a course or workshop you deposit will be returned to you in full. Should you have to cancel a your place on a workshop or course, your deposit will be returned to you or transferred to another course if your cancellation is 7 days or more before the commencement of the courses or workshop. If less than 7 days notice is given the deposit is non refundable unless we can fill your place in which case it shall be returned to you.
