MONO PRINTING WORKSHOP

During this workshop you will have the opportunity to explore the basics and more of mono
printing, a great first introduction to printing working on a A2 professional etching press:

  • During this workshop you shall:

    - work monochromatically at first before transcribing ideas onto the studio etching press exploring tone and texture

    - learn dark line in a white field and white line in a dark field

    - explore block colours and simple shapes and develop these into more sophisticated designs textures and shades

    - learn about printing inks and paper, and how to us an etching press using a plate and stencil process

    - work with multiple payers of oil-based inks to explore colour mixing and over laying

    -  learn good studio practice, care, preparation and maintenance of material

    -  produce a sequential body of colourful and layered work by the end of the day 

    - have source material will be provided but please feel free to bring any images, sketches or reference material that inspires you

    - have the opportunity to work from whatever level you are at, from a complete beginner to experienced practitioner

    -have the opportunity for plenty of one to one, as you will be a small group

 

Patrick Smith is an established artist in fine art and printmaking having work in many private collections both nationally and internationally. His practice concentrates on ideas associated with the edge and devices in composition and form. Patrick studied painting and printmaking at Leeds Metropolitan University where he was awarded the William Tier memorial award for Landscapes and Erasmus scholarship to train at the Utrecht School of the Arts in Holland.
