TURNER'S WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP

Have you ever felt you would like to explore the work of Turner, if so this workshop is just the thing for you. Join us for a ‘hands on’ investigation of his unique technique, allowing you to experiment with colour, texture, striking effects produced by washes and composition.

'Dazzling, evocative and sublime',  is how Tate Britain characterised the forward-thinking watercolour work of Joseph Mallord William Turner.

The workshop will be focussed on exploring Turner’s methodology, reference material and handouts provided for visual support ; you will investigate what unique tools he used to create an expressive painting ; you will create graded, wet on wet and washes charged with energy and colour. Unexpected results will be common during this workshop, as you will follow the great master’s way of breaking his own rules. You will practice painting on toned paper creating dramatic effects. There will be allocated time for you to produce personal atmospheric work based on Turner’s approach creating a watercolour with impact. You will also receive feedback and guidance at all stages as well as support in specific areas that may of particular interest to you.

Tutor: Julia Borodina is a Russian-born fine artist, who has a passion for colour, loose painting technique and enjoys using impressionistic approaches within her work. Julia holds a BA in fine art from Omsk University, Russia and an MA in painting from University of Wolverhampton.
