THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO INVESTIGATE IMPORTANT TEXT ARTIST WITH AN EMPHASIS ON HANDS-ON EXPERIMENTATION/IMPROVISATION IN ORDER TO PRODUCE YOUR OWN THOUGHTFUL AESTHETICALLY PLEASING, POSSIBLY PROVOCATIVE PIECE OF WORD ART. WORDS ARE VERY POWERFUL SIGNIFIERS. EVEN SINGLE LETTERS OF THE ALPHABET ARE BEAUTIFUL AESTHETICALLY PLEASING IN THEIR COMPLEX INTERRELATING SHAPES. WORDS AND SENTENCES HAVE EXPLICIT MEANING, YET ARE ALSO VISUALLY ABSTRACT. RANGING FROM THE AVANT-GARDE POLITICAL PROPAGANDA OF THE EARLY SOVIET UNION TO THE MARVELLOUSLY IMPENETRABLE "ALPHABET DES REVES" OF THE PARIS SURREALISTS AS WELL AS ARTIST SUCH AS GREG CURNOE, BARBARA KRUGER AND MARCEL BROODTHAERS. 

ALL MATERIALS PROVIDED, HOWEVER PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN TEXT IF YOU LIKE TO, BUT IT IS NOT A NECESSITY.

Tutor: Tim Morrison trained at The Royal College of Art and Edinburgh, has exhibited in York and London and has many years experience teaching successful, varied and interesting and adult art classes. Tim is regularly part of York Open Studios.
