DURING THIS WORKSHOP YOU SHALL INVESTIGATED TURNER'S FORWARD LOOKING WATERCOLOUR TECHNIQUES, INCLUDING HIS WORK BASED ON YORKSHIRE COUNTRYSIDE AND GO ON TO APPLY THIS KNOWLEDGE TO YOU OWN PHOTOS AND FIRST HAND VISUAL RESEARCH SUCH AS LINE DRAWINGS AND SKETCHED IDEAS. ALTERNATIVELY, SOME IMAGERY WILL BE PROVIDED AS A STARTING POINT FOR PERSONAL COMPOSITION DEVELOPMENT.

YOU WILL LEARN THROUGH EXPLORATORY INVESTIGATION, PLAY AND TUTOR DEMONSTRATION, EXPERIMENTING WITH  APPROACHES IN USING SHAPE, COLOUR AND TEXTURES AND DEVELOPING A NUMBER OF PIECES.  YOU WILL USE BOLD AND SPONTANEOUS WASHES, EXPERIMENTAL BRUSH WORK AND EFFECTIVE APPROACHES TO COMPOSITION.

TEACHING IS INFORMAL AND ENCOURAGING.  THE COURSE WILL SUIT BEGINNERS AS WELL AS EXPERIENCED PRACTITIONERS, ITS AIM BEING TO EXPLORE AND WIDEN THE BORDERS OF WATERCOLOUR PAINTING. YOU WILL CREATE SHORT PAINTING SKETCHES, EXPERIMENTAL; WORK AND LONGER STUDIES EXPLORING THE UNIQUE QUALITIES OF WATERCOLOUR.

TUTOR: JULIA BORODINA IS A RUSSIAN-BORM FINE ARTIST, WHO HAS A PASSION FOR COLOUR, LOOSE PAINTING TECHNIQUE AND ENJOYS USING IMPRESSIONISTIC APPROACHES WITHIN HER WORK. JULIA HOLDS A BA IN FINE ART FROM OMSK UNIVERSITY, RUSSIA AND AN MA IN PAINTING FROM UNIVERSITY OF WOLVERHAMPTON. SHE HAS 10 YEARS EXPERIENCE OF DESIGNING AND LEADING CREATIVE WORKSHOPS SPECIALISING IN WATERCOLOUR, ACRYLIC AND OIL PAINTING. JULIA'S WORK HAS BEEN EXHIBITED AT THE ROYAL INSTITUTE OF PAINTERS IN WATER COLOURS ANUAL EXHIBITION AND AT THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF BIRMINGHAM ARTISTS. www.juliaborodina.co.uk

YOU ONLY NEED TO BRING SOURCES OF THE SUBJECT INTEREST IN YOUR WORK WOULD TAKE THE FORM OF PHOTOGRAPHS OR PICTURES SUPPLIED BY YOU, OF SITUATIONS, TEXTURES OR WHATEVER YOU FEEL WOULD BE APPROPRIATE TO KICK START YOUR WORK. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN PAINTS, BRUSHES ETC YOU WOULD LIKE TO BRING, YOU ARE WELCOME TO USE THESE TOO.
