TUTOR: JULIA BORODINA IS A RUSSIAN-BORM FINE ARTIST, WHO HAS A PASSION FOR COLOUR, LOOSE PAINTING TECHNIQUE AND ENJOYS USING IMPRESSIONISTIC APPROACHES WITHIN HER WORK. JULIA HOLDS A BA IN FINE ART FROM OMSK UNIVERSITY, RUSSIA AND AN MA IN PAINTING FROM UNIVERSITY OF WOLVERHAMPTON. SHE HAS 10 YEARS EXPERIENCE OF DESIGNING AND LEADING CREATIVE WORKSHOPS SPECIALISING IN WATERCOLOUR, ACRYLIC AND OIL PAINTING. JULIA'S WORK HAS BEEN EXHIBITED AT THE ROYAL INSTITUTE OF PAINTERS IN WATER COLOURS ANUAL EXHIBITION AND AT THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF BIRMINGHAM ARTISTS. www.juliaborodina.co.uk

THIS WORKSHOP WILL FOCUS ON CAPTURING THE ELEMENTS OF THE YORKSHIRE LANDSCAPE USING WATERCOLOUR. YOU WILL BALANCE THE SUBTLETY OF WASHES AGAINST DENSITY OF DETAILS TO CREATE THE ILLUSION OF ATMOSPHERE, PLACE AND PICTORIAL SPACE. YOU WILL TAKE INSPIRATION FROM DAVID HOCKNEY'S RECENT WATERCOLOURS, WORKING FROM YOUR OWN PHOTOS AND SKETCHES OR, ALTERNATIVELY, USING IMAGERY WHICH WILL BE PROVIDED AS A STARTING POINT.

DURING THE DAY, YOU WILL INVESTIGATE THE TECHNIQUE OF DAVID HOCKNEY, FROM GENERAL TO DETAILS, DEPICTING YORKSHIRE COUNTRYSIDE. USING SHAPES, COLOURS AND TEXTURES YOU WILL DEVELOP WORK USING RULES OF PERSPECTIVE, TONAL VALUES AND COMPOSITION TO CREATE A NUMBER OF PAINTINGS. YOU WILL LEARN THROUGH EXPLORATORY INVESTIGATION AND TUTOR DEMONSTRATIONS.

TEACHING IS INFORMAL AND ENCOURAGING. THIS MIXED LEVEL COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR BOTH BEGINNERS AS WELL AS EXPERIENCED PRACTITIONERS.  ITS AIM BEING TO EXPLORE AND WIDEN THE BORDERS OF WATERCOLOUR PAINTING. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE IS NECESSARY.
