Today, Acrylics are being used by more artists than ever before. They are durable, inexpensive, easy to use and fast drying paints, which lead an artist to have plenty of dazzling results. You will investigate the importance of colour schemes, explore the effects of colour primers and practice to apply transparent, translucent and opaque layers. During the 5 weeks you will produce short and long studies, explore texture and brush marks, paint with sponges and palette knives. 

Each session will start from a specially designed exercises to support your learning, leading to independent practical work during the second half of the day. There will be on-going referencing to inspiring artists and a discussion of their methods. Reference material and handouts provided for visual support.

Over the 5 sessions you will:

  • Explore tones and produce Monochromatic studies;

  • Discover the principles of Complementary Colours and practice to apply Glaze, Pre-mix, Translucent and Opaque paint;

  • You will mix your own Family Groups of Colours and investigate Analogous Colour Schemes while using palette knives;

  • Learn and test a Split-complimentary Colour Schemes and paint on various colour backgrounds;

  • Unleash the power of Triadic Colour Schemes, which will enable you to expand on ways to apply, lift paint and unify your work with final layers.

Teaching is professional and encouraging, the workshop will suit beginners as well as experienced practitioners

Tutor: Julia Borodina is a Russian-born fine artist, who has a passion for colour, loose painting technique and enjoys using impressionistic approaches within her work. Julia holds a BA in Fine Art from Omsk University, Russia and an MA in painting from University of Wolverhampton. Julia has 10 years experience of designing and leading creative workshops specialising in watercolour, acrylic and oil painting. Julia's work has been exhibited at The Royal Institute of Painters in the water colours annual exhibition and at The Royal Society of Birmingham Artists.
