During this workshop you will:
- Have the opportunity to develop the confidence to make your own unique marks through various exercises and techniques
-Be encouraged to construct brushes and mark making tools from found materials
- Develop from simpler materials such as pencil and charcoal to inks and acrylic paints
· Explore the complexity of mark making through simple shifts in approach
This is play at its most basic but also sophisticated in how you can apply what you discover.
During this workshop you will also have the opportunity to explore large Scale work -developing confidence to scale up your work using the unique stable facilities at York Art and Crafts where we have the space to throw paint around without having to worry about the mess. Just enjoy the vast array of spectacular marks created. This opportunity to develop from quick sketches of images supplied through to quickly moving on to an expressive loose interpretation of the original provides the freedom to explore a greater range of gestural mark making and encourage creative ways to apply materials using large brushes, cloths and squeegees
We shall work with acrylic paints, inks and household paints upon a variety of substrates on paper and card, looking at abstract expressionists such as Jackson pollock, Robert Rauchenberg, Robert Motherwell, Franz Klein, Joan Mitchell, Cy Twombly and Anselm Keifer.
Please dress warmly in close you don't mind getting messy if wishing to work large in the stable (the studio will also be in use however) and aprons shall be provided
Phil Reynolds studied Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University, graduating in 1997 and has since pursued a career as an artist. He has been exhibiting his work in contemporary galleries throughout the North of England as well as London and Bristol affordable art fairs. Phil's work explores the ground between abstraction and figuration where forms emerge from a fluid use of acrylic paint. His work is both instinctive and keenly observed bringing together raw marks with more mediated responses.
