Drawing Into Painting Workshop - with artist: Phil Reynolds who studied Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University, graduating in 1997 and has since pursued a career as an artist. He has been exhibiting his work in contemporary galleries throughout the North of England as well as London and Bristol affordable art fairs. Phil's work explores the ground between abstraction and figuration where forms emerge from a fluid use of acrylic paint. His work is both instinctive and keenly observed bringing together raw marks with more mediated responses.
During this workshop we will look at the combination of of drawing and painting mixing linear work with more broad coverage of paint through observation and intuition. We shall discuss the difference and similarities between drawing and painting, exploring a range of possibilities to employ this approach to creating artwork and look at how line and solid areas compliment and affect each other. We shall look at what media work together and some that struggle more. Some materials used include gouache, acrylic, charcoal, pencil and pen. There will be a large still life to work from as well as having the option of working outdoors during this all-day workshop. Artists to look at include Ashille Gorky, Alberto Giacometti, Ben Nicholson, John Piper and Joan Mitchell to name a few.
