Intensive 5-DAY Watercolour Painting Course

 Have you been mystified by the magic of watercolour and often felt it is too unreachable to be explored on your own? This 5 week course invites you to and discover and develop colour washes, develop interesting mark making and enjoy painting expressively through the medium of watercolour.

Each session will start from the specially designed exercises to support your learning, leading to independent practical work during the second half of the day and suitable for all levels. There will be on-going referencing to inspiring watercolour practitioners and a discussion of their methods. Reference material and handouts provided for visual support.

Over the 5 sessions you will:

  • Explore tones, washes, methods on lifting paint and creative use of brushes all inspired by W.Turner;

  • Practice to use ink and pen with watercolour by learning from the great masters, such as  Rembrandt and John Piper;

  • Discover the principles of Complementary Colours and how to paint with impact like Matisse;

  • Practice ‘loose’ painting style by Alvaro Castagnet and test how Explore soft and hard edges impact your work;

  • Break the rules and experiment with bold colours inspired by Shirley Trevena.Tutor: Julia Borodina is a Russian-born fine artist, who has a passion for colour, loose painting technique and enjoys using impressionistic approaches within her work. Julia holds a BA in Fine Art from Omsk University, Russia and an MA in painting from University of Wolverhampton. Julia has 10 years experience of designing and leading creative workshops specialising in watercolour, acrylic and oil painting. Julia's work has been exhibited at The Royal Institute of Painters in the water colours annual exhibition and at The Royal Society of Birmingham Artists.
