Turner's Atmospheric Mountains in Watercolour Workshop with artist Julia Borodina -  When:  Wednesday 20th June 2018 - Time: 10am - 3.00pm - Level: All All materials & refreshments included (just bring a packed lunch) - Cost: £40 - Limited places available

'Dazzling, evocative and sublime', this is how Tate Britain has characterised the forward-thinking watercolour work of William Turner.  During this workshop you shall experience a ‘hands on’ investigation of his unique technique, allowing you to experiment with colour, texture, striking effects produced by washes and composition.

  • The workshop shall be focussed on exploring Turner’s methodology;
  • Reference material and handouts provided for visual support;
  • You will investigate what unique tools he used to create an expressive painting when working on an atmospheric mountains;
  • You will try various methods of lifting paint and how to add extra highlights using a craft knife;
  • Painting wet on wet with a sponge will allow you to work from large shapes to smaller details.
  • You will also have a chance to draw with purple and sepia inks on dry and damp surface as often Turner experimented with.
