Create an atmosphere through Monochromatic Painting in Acrylics
Tutor: Julia Borodina - When: Wednesday 20th February 2019 - Time: 10am - 3pm
Level: All - All materials and refreshments included (just bring a packed lunch)

Why is tone important? Here's what that master of colour Henri Matisse had to say:

‘When I have found the relationship of all the tones the result must be a living harmony of all the tones, a harmony not unlike that of a musical composition."

The tone of a painting can do a variety of things, from setting the mood to adding emphasis. A painting with only mid-tones risks being flat and dull. Understandably, monochromatic palette is a limited palette to work with but a very expressive one! Come along to this stimulating workshop and learn:

  • how tone can be relative to other tones

  • how to recognise the tone of a colour

  • tone as key element of composition

  • what is global and local tone

  • how to paint with impact.

During the day you will work from a chosen image completing a number of short exercises and longer studies. This workshop will demonstrate that a monochromatic palette is anything but dull.
