During this 4 week course you will explore the unique qualities of traditional oil painting :

  • You will explore preparing you canvas surface, priming and getting to know your paints, brushes and oil mediums.

  • You will concentrate on portraying a specific type of atmosphere within your chosen theme

  • You will produce a number of short studies leading to a final outcome

  • Whether you chose a quiet and provincial part of a town, a busy and full of noise city street, a dramatic landscape or a bouquet of summer flowers – this is a fantastic opportunity to discover your potential with this medium. 

  • All materials are provided, however it is recommended that you bring any sketches or images that may inspire you to the first session

  • You will learn how to select and convert your images into impressive oil paintings and will develop work using rules of perspective, tonal values and composition.

  • The course is an introduction to the fundamentals of oil painting, however, if you have attended a similar class in the past you can start on developing your painting straight away as the course will be differentiated to all levels


Julia Borodina is a Fine Artist trained in Russia and the UK. Her main themes are landscapes and townscapes and has exhibited work at the Annual Exhibition of Royal Society of Painters in Water Colour, the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Annual Exhibition of Society of Women Artists at the Mall Galleries in London, Royal Society of Birmingham Artists and many other British Galleries. https://www.juliaborodina.co.uk

Terms and conditions: A 50% deposit is required to book a place on any course or workshop with the balance due the week before the start date. In the unlikely event we have to can cel a course or workshop you deposit will be returned to you in full. Should you have to cancel a your place on a workshop or course, your deposit will be returned to you or transferred to another course if your cancellation is 7 days or more before the commencement of the courses or workshop. If less than 7 days notice is given the deposit is non refundable unless we can fill your place in which case it shall be returned to you.
